Take my team there

In Milan, between Porta Romana and Lodi metro station, a 17th-century farmstead keeps its cobbled courtyards, its garden and its shared vegetable plot. Left derelict in the 1990s, it was saved by the people of the neighbourhood. Its kitchen, Un posto a Milano, serves from breakfast until past midnight.

The neighbours’ farm

Recorded in the land register of 1722 as Cassina Torchio, the farm became city property in 1984 and was declared unfit for use ten years later. From 1991 local residents dreamed of opening it up; their association won a twenty-year concession in 2005. Marco Dezzi Bardeschi restored it between 2008 and 2012, paid for by citizens, institutions and companies.

For a team, the whole cascina can be hired, 2,000 m² for 150 people, with meals from Un posto a Milano, the only caterer allowed on site. Upstairs, five connecting rooms seat 80 theatre-style; the north courtyard holds 150 standing, next to the vegetable garden. The same team runs a foresteria, guest rooms inside the farm. Metro M3, Lodi TIBB station.
