Wanås Restaurant Hotel
In north-eastern Skåne, the Wanås estate brings together a castle rebuilt in 1556, a sculpture park opened in 1987 and an organic farm. The hotel has eleven rooms in two 18th-century buildings, at the edge of a beech forest protected as a nature reserve.

Marika Wachtmeister invited the first artists into the woods in 1987; the Wanås Konst foundation now keeps more than seventy site-specific works there. The family farms just over 1,700 hectares organically, heats its houses with wood from its own forests and owns half of a hydropower plant that produces twice what the estate uses.

Limestone floors, metre-thick stone walls, vintage furniture and contemporary art: the hotel cooks what the farm and the forest provide. In 2026 it hosts one group at a time and can be taken over entirely, meeting rooms included, for a total of eleven double rooms. Direct trains run from Copenhagen to Hässleholm, with a taxi for the last stretch.
